Women activities in Morocco aspire to the half of the seats in elected bodies.

  • 1er Fabruary 2010

This is not just about numbers, or women’s presence in representative bodies. The issue of women’s political participation is inextricably linked to democracy” said Khadija Rabbah, president of the “Movement for the Third…” after the meeting organized by the Movement, January 29 2010 in Casablanca.

During her speech, Khadija Rabbah has again insisted on parity and reviewed the various stages in which the movement has showed a strong presence. The rate of 10% of women in parliaments and 12% in town councils are insufficient according to Khadija Rabbah. The president of the movement’s ambition is parity between men and women, ambition justified by “women’s ability to stimulate governance, participatory democracy and local development”, supported by the power of their advocacy actions to achieve this goal. As such, Khadija Rabbah cited the example of advocacy campaigns conducted by the movement to strengthen women’s political representation.

One of the most important achievements of the “Movement for the Third…” is to have succeeded in making women’s representiveness a central issue in public debates as well as to have widened the issue at the local level. She also recalled that this action is the “result of joint efforts with the organs of civil society at local level and women’s sections in political parties”.
